Trey Sermon
Trey Sermon is an American football running back who has played in the NFL for several teams. Born January 30, 1999, in St. Petersburg, Florida, he attended Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia, and played college football at Oklahoma (2017–2019) and Ohio State (2020). At Oklahoma, he rushed for 744 yards as a freshman and 947 yards as a sophomore. In 2020 at Ohio State, he helped the team win the Big Ten Championship, with a 331-yard rushing performance, and starred in the Sugar Bowl with 193 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also played in the national title game in 2021 before suffering an injury early in the championship.
Sermon was drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers (88th overall). He signed a four-year contract in July 2021 and started his rookie season as the third-string back. He had his first start in Week 3, rushing for 31 yards and a rushing TD, plus two catches for 3 yards and another TD. He injured his ankle in Week 12 and spent time on injured reserve, finishing his rookie year with 167 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD in 9 games (2 starts).
In 2022, the 49ers released him, and Sermon was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles. He played in Weeks 4 and 5 for the Eagles before being waived/injured in 2023 and placed on injured reserve. He then joined the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad and was promoted to the active roster, appearing in 14 games in 2023 with 160 rushing yards on 35 carries. The Colts re-signed him in March 2024.
Sermon signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on May 11, 2025. He was cut at the end of August, spent time on the practice squad, was briefly on the active roster in November, and finished the season on the practice squad. He appeared in four games for the Steelers, all on special teams, with two kickoff returns for 51 yards and a tackle. His career NFL totals through 2025 include 505 rushing yards, a 3.8-yard average, 3 rushing TDs, 22 receptions, and 138 receiving yards. He has earned a Second-team All-Big Ten selection (2020).
