The Oscar Robertson Trophy is an annual award given by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) to the top NCAA Division I men’s basketball player. It began in 1959 and is one of the oldest national player-of-the-year honors in college basketball, after The Sporting News’ award (1943), the Helms award (1944), and the UPI award (1955). It was originally called the USBWA College Player of the Year, but since 1998 the trophy has been named after Oscar Robertson, the first winner and a basketball legend. Each year five finalists are named and the player with the most votes wins, with the winner announced during the NCAA tournament. The most recent winner is Cooper Flagg of Duke.
