Barry Bret Helton (born January 2, 1965) is a former American football punter who played in the NFL in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and went to Simla High School. He played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes from 1984 to 1987, earning consensus All-American honors in 1985 and 1986, and second-team honors in 1987; he was a three-time first-team All-Big Eight pick.

He was drafted in the fourth round of the 1988 NFL Draft (102nd overall) by the San Francisco 49ers. Helton played for the 49ers from 1988 to 1991 and for the Los Angeles Rams in 1991, helping the 49ers win two Super Bowls (XXIII and XXIV). His NFL career stats include 213 punts for 8,285 yards, with a long of 56 yards and an average of 38.9 yards per punt. He is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 205 pounds during his playing days.

Helton and his wife Lisa have four children: Chad, Brad, Nicole, and Bret. Bret is a professional athlete in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ minor league system.
