Cave Spring is a census-designated place in Roanoke County, Virginia, and is part of the Roanoke metropolitan area. It covers about 11.8 square miles (30.6 km²), all land, and sits around 1,099 feet (335 meters) above sea level. The 2020 population was 26,755. The area is known locally as Southwest County, with many of Roanoke’s affluent suburbs. Roanoke County’s government offices are in Cave Spring, while the independent city of Salem is the county seat.
