Casting JonBenet
Casting JonBenet is a 2017 documentary by Kitty Green. It looks at the death of JonBenét Ramsey, but mainly follows the casting process for reenactments of the case. Local Colorado actors audition for roles such as John and Patsy Ramsey, Burke Ramsey, John Mark Karr, and Boulder police officials. While dressed as the people they are auditioning for, they share their emotions and theories, offering personal reactions rather than retelling the crime. The film shows how the Ramsey case became a pop-culture obsession and a source of conspiracy theories.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2017, and began streaming on Netflix on April 28, 2017. It runs 80 minutes and is distributed by Netflix.
Critics gave it positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has 81% approval (47 reviews) with an average score of 7.3/10. On Metacritic, it holds a score of 74 out of 100, indicating generally favorable reviews.
