Carolyn Finney
Carolyn Finney, known as Finney, is an elite American ultimate frisbee player and a hardware engineer. She plays for the San Francisco Fury and has represented the United States on national teams, winning gold at major events like the World Games and World Championships. She is widely regarded as one of the most well-rounded players in USA Ultimate’s women’s division.
She was born on August 12, 1987, in San Jose, California, and lived there most of her life, with three years in Germany as a child. She attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she started in history and aquatic biology before earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Finney began playing ultimate at UCSB with the Burning Skirts (2007–2011), a team that reached the college finals every year and won national titles in 2009 and 2011. She also played for the Santa Barbara Lady Condors (2007–2009) and San Diego Knock Out (2010).
Finney joined the San Francisco Fury in 2012 and helped the team win club championships in 2012, 2017, and 2018. She earned silver at the 2012 WFDF World Championships, and gold at the 2016 WFDF World Championships (mixed) and at the World Games in 2017 (Wroclaw) and 2022 (Birmingham). She commuted from Santa Barbara to play for Fury for several years before moving to San Francisco to work as a hardware engineer in 2016.
