The mixed 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2024 European Athletics Championships was held on 7 June at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. This was the first time the event was run at the European Championships. Each team ran in the order man–woman–man–woman, and eight nations took part in a single final.

Ireland won gold in 3:09.92, a championship record and national record. Italy finished second in 3:10.69, a national record, and the Netherlands were third in 3:10.73, also a national record. Belgium finished fourth with 3:11.03, a national record. France were disqualified for a baton‑handover fault.

The race saw Ireland move to the front in the middle stages, with Italy and the Netherlands close behind. In the final leg, Ireland’s Sharlene Mawdsley passed Belgium’s Helena Ponette, while Italy’s Alice Mangione and the Netherlands’ Femke Bol finished strongly. Belgium’s Alexander Doom posted the fastest male leg (44.15 seconds), and Bol had the fastest female leg (49.21 seconds).

This gold was Ireland’s first European Athletics Championships gold since 1998.
