Carex brunnea
Carex brunnea, the greater brown sedge, is a small flowering plant in the sedge family (Cyperaceae). It is found in parts of Asia, eastern Australia, and Lord Howe Island, often in sunny, disturbed areas near rainforest.
Taxonomy and names: Its binomial name is Carex brunnea Thunb. It has synonyms including Carex hattoriana Tuyama and Carex gracilis R.Br. The name Carex gracilis was ruled invalid because that name had already been used for another plant described by Carl Peter Thunberg in 1784.
Discovery: The species was described by Robert Brown in 1810 in Prodromus Florae Novae Hollandiae et Insulae Van Diemen.
