Mesopsychidae
Mesopsychidae
Mesopsychidae is an extinct family of scorpionflies that lived from the Late Permian to the mid-Cretaceous. They belong to the group Mesopsychoidea, which had a long siphon-like proboscis. These insects were likely nectar-feeders, sipping nectar and liquid pollination drops, and they may have helped pollinate ancient gymnosperms such as Bennettitales.
Classification: Kingdom Animalia; Phylum Arthropoda; Class Insecta; Order Mecoptera; Family Mesopsychidae.
