Penn Branch is a neighborhood in Southeast Washington, D.C., just east of the Anacostia River. It is bounded by Pennsylvania Avenue SE to the south, Pope Branch Park and Pope Creek to the north, Branch Avenue to the west, and Fort Davis Park to the east. The name comes from the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Branch Avenue, part of Maryland Route 5. Nearby areas include Hillcrest, Fort Dupont, and Dupont Park, and it is about 15 minutes from the U.S. Capitol with easy access to the Southeast-Southwest Freeway. The area is known for tree-lined streets and a mix of home styles such as American Craftsman bungalows, Federal, Mid-Atlantic Colonial Revival, and Tudor Revival, and it sits at a higher elevation than much of the city.
