Caffeine (coffeehouse chain)
Caffeine is a coffeehouse chain based in Vilnius, Lithuania. It started in 2007 as Coffee Inn in central Vilnius, launched by four Lithuanian entrepreneurs. The brand’s bright orange look and focus on takeaway espresso helped it grow quickly, and by the mid-2010s it was the Baltic region’s largest branded coffee chain with around 60 cafés.
In 2017 the chain changed its name to Caffeine Roasters after a trademark dispute with an Estonian chain with a similar name. In October 2018, Reitan Convenience, part of Reitan AS, bought the business, while the original founders stayed in management. The brand was shortened to Caffeine and joined Reitan’s wider network. The concept then spread beyond the Baltics to Oslo and Copenhagen.
From 2022, all Baltic stores started serving only certified organic beans, becoming the first chain in the region to do so. By 2025 Caffeine operated more than 100 cafés in Lithuania, plus 27 in Latvia and 12 in Estonia, with new drive‑throughs and a charging hub in Varėna. Most stores are company‑owned, with some franchised.
What you’ll find on the menu includes espresso drinks, filter coffee, cold brew, tea, hot chocolate, seasonal beverages, pastries and light meals. Packaged coffee beans are sold in cafés and online, and a loyalty app offers discounts and pre‑ordering. Caffeine is known for popularizing takeaway coffee and laptop‑friendly cafés in cities like Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda. The company promotes sustainability with an organic‑coffee policy, reusable‑cup incentives and partnerships with EV charging hubs operated by Eldrive Lithuania.
