Brett Marshall
Brett Edward Marshall (born March 22, 1990) is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees in 2013. He batted and threw right-handed.
Early life and draft
Marshall grew up in Highlands, Texas, and attended Sterling High School in Baytown, where he made the All-State first team in 2008. He was drafted by the Yankees in the sixth round of the 2008 MLB draft (200th overall) and signed with them for an $850,000 bonus. He started his professional career in the minor leagues with the Gulf Coast League Yankees.
Minor leagues to MLB
Marshall played for several Yankees affiliates over the next few seasons, including the Charleston RiverDogs, the Tampa Yankees, and the Trenton Thunder. In 2013 he began the season with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in Triple-A. He made his major league debut on May 15, 2013, against the Seattle Mariners, pitching 5 2/3 innings in relief and giving up five earned runs. He was sent back to Triple-A the next day. He was recalled to the Yankees on September 1, 2013, when rosters expanded, and appeared in three games for New York that year, finishing with a 4.50 ERA and seven strikeouts in 12 innings.
After MLB
Marshall was designated for assignment in December 2013 and claimed by the Chicago Cubs, then moved to the Cincinnati Reds in 2014. He spent time in the Reds organization before signing a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies in November 2014. He played for the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats in 2015, posting a 1–4 record with a 5.40 ERA over 41 2/3 innings, and was released in July 2015. He then played for the Sugar Land Skeeters in the Atlantic League in 2015, becoming a free agent after the season.
In 2016 he signed a minor league deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, appearing for the Montgomery Biscuits with an 8.24 ERA across 15 games before being released in May. He returned to the Skeeters in June 2016 and later played for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in 2018, who traded him to the Long Island Ducks later that year. He was released in May 2019.
