Sigtuna rib

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Sigtuna rib is a 12th‑century runic amulet carved on a rib bone. It was found in 1998 in Sigtuna, Uppland, Sweden, and dates to around 1100. The rib has writing on both sides using Younger Futhark runes and was meant as a charm against illness.

The inscription exists in transliteration and in Old West Norse and Old East Norse normalizations. In plain language, the charm is about curing fever and an abscess—the idea is to drive away the fever and heal the wound.
