Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor
Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor (Scan–Med), also known as the Helsinki–Valletta Corridor, is one of ten priority routes in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). It is the longest TEN-T Core Corridor, running about 4,858 km (3,019 miles) from Helsinki, Finland, to Valletta, Malta, and passing through Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Malta.
The corridor links the Seine to the Danube through three main routes and a number of major European cities, helping connect northern, central, and southern Europe.
In 2018, the plan extended the corridor northward to Narvik and to Haparanda-Tornio from Stockholm and Helsinki.
On 18 May 2021, the European Commission said the Messina Bridge between Sicily and mainland Italy is very important for Europe’s Green Deal because it would boost connectivity. Building it is up to Italy, but EU programs could contribute under the 2021–2027 budget.
