Rajagopalan Parthasarathy (born 6 October 1945) is an Indian mathematician who specializes in the representation theory of Lie groups and algebras. He studied at IIT Madras and the University of Bombay and worked at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai. He is known for the Hotta-Parthasarathy theorem and for work on Blattner's conjecture. In 1985 he received India's Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in mathematical sciences. His early research showed how discrete series representations of semisimple Lie groups can be realized inside Dirac spinors, and he has made important contributions to questions about unitary highest weight modules and Blattner's conjecture.
