Carlos Barreto (July 25, 1976 – October 12, 1999) was a Venezuelan boxer who fought in the super bantamweight division. Born in Petare, Venezuela, he represented his country at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He made his pro debut on September 21, 1996. Barreto became the first WBA interim super-bantamweight champion after defeating Hector Acero Sánchez in October 1998. He later challenged for the full title but was stopped in the eighth round by Néstor Garza. Barreto died on October 12, 1999, in Caracas, three days after a fight with José Luis Valbuena; he collapsed after the bout and died from brain injuries sustained in the match. His professional record was 16 fights, 13 wins (9 by KO), 2 losses and 1 draw. He was 23 years old.
