Bob Young (offensive lineman)
Bob Young (Robert Allen Young) was an American football offensive lineman who played 16 seasons in the AFL and NFL. He was born on September 3, 1942, in Marshall, Texas, and grew up in Brownwood, Texas. He stood 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighed 270 pounds. Young played college football at the University of Texas before transferring to Howard Payne University, where he also competed in track; he was inducted into the Howard Payne Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
Drafted in 1964, Young played for the Denver Broncos (1966–1970), the St. Louis Cardinals (1972–1979), the Houston Oilers (1971, 1980), and the New Orleans Saints (1981). He earned two Pro Bowl selections (1978 and 1979) and was a first-team All-Pro in 1979. He appeared in 194 NFL/AFL games, starting 149, and recovered 7 fumbles.
After his playing career, Young coached in the USFL with the Houston Gamblers (1984–1985) and later served as an offensive line coach for the University of Houston (1987–1989) and the Houston Oilers (1990–1994). He passed away from a heart attack on June 17, 1995, in Missouri City, Texas, at the age of 52.
