Martin Zobel
Martin Zobel (born 25 February 1957 in Tallinn) is an Estonian plant ecologist and professor at the University of Tartu. He is known for the idea that regional species diversity can influence diversity at smaller spatial scales, called the species pool effect. He has been a professor since 1992 and has served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Ecography. Zobel was listed as an influential scientist by Clarivate Analytics for several years, from 2017 through 2021. His father was architectural historian Rein Zobel, and his brother is biologist Kristjan Zobel. He is married to Mari Moora, a professor of community ecology.
