Augusto Pedro Berto (Bahía Blanca, February 4, 1889 – April 29, 1953) was an Argentine composer and bandoneón player. He was the first to spread popular Argentine music in Europe and is best known for his tango compositions.

His most famous piece is La payanca, which helped make him well known. It is said to have been written in 1906 when he was 17.

Another important work is ¿Dónde estás corazón? (1928). The words and music were not originally by Berto; it was adapted into a tango from a 1924 song by Luis Martínez Serrano. Berto’s tango version, with his own lyrics, became a standard and was first recorded by Francisco Lomuto in 1928 and by Ignacio Corsini with guitars in 1930.

Berto’s tango lyrics begin: "Yo la quería más que a mi vida. Más que a mi madre la amaba yo."
