Argus (mythology)

Argus, also called Argos, is a name used for more than one figure in Greek mythology. The two most well-known are:

- Argus Panoptes, the all-seeing giant who guarded Io. He had many eyes all over his body. Hera set him to watch Io, but Hermes tricked and killed him. Zeus approved, and Hera later placed Argus’s eyes on the tail of the peacock.

- Argus, the shipwright who built the Argo, Jason’s ship for the quest of the Golden Fleece. He crafted the vessel that carried Jason and his Argonauts on their voyage.
