Arvid Hansen
Arvid Hansen (1 March 1916 – 13 February 1945) was a Norwegian who joined the resistance during the Nazi occupation. Born in Oslo, he worked as an electrician and helped with the illegal press before becoming part of Milorg. He took part in many sabotage missions, including his 28th, Aksjon smør.
In Aksjon smør, Milorg members stole food from two warehouses—one in Tollbugata belonging to German forces and one in Skippergata belonging to Arbeidstjenesten—and shared it with fighters hiding in the forests around Oslo.
On 13 February 1945, the day after Aksjon smør, Gestapo arrested several resistance members after intercepting a meeting. Four Nazis then came to Hansen’s home just before midnight. They rang the doorbell; Arvid’s father Harald answered and was shot. Arvid, who was in his bedroom, fired three shots and killed one Nazi, but was himself killed in the exchange. His fiancée, who helped in the resistance, was wounded. His mother survived and fled to Sweden the following week.
Arvid Hansen is commemorated with eight other resistance members with a memorial stone at Sarabråten in Østmarka.
