Robert Mainwaring Chitty (4 July 1916 – 4 April 1985) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League from 1937 to 1946. Born in Corryong, Victoria, he played 147 games and kicked 32 goals for Carlton. He helped Carlton win the 1938 premiership and was the club captain when they won the 1945 premiership. He won Carlton’s best-and-fairest, the Robert Reynolds Trophy, in 1941 and 1944. Chitty was known as a tough, influential player and was part of the 1945 Grand Final, famously known as the Bloodbath, after delivering a hard hit to Ron Clegg and being suspended for eight weeks for elbowing Bill Williams. After leaving Carlton, he coached Benalla from 1947 to 1949, moved to Tasmania in 1950 to captain-coach Scottsdale, and later played for Ringarooma, topping the Northern Tasmanian goalkicking in 1952 with 40 goals and kicking 105 goals in 1956. He died in Launceston, Tasmania, on 4 April 1985.
