Pualas
Pualas is a small municipality in Lanao del Sur, in the Bangsamoro region of the Philippines. It covers about 183 square kilometers and sits at elevations between roughly 700 and 1,440 meters above sea level.
As of 2024, about 18,000 people live in Pualas. The town is divided into 23 barangays (villages). Pualas was created as a municipality on June 21, 1953. It originally had 39 barangays, but in 1985 only 23 remained.
Local government is led by a mayor, a vice mayor, and a municipal council. The population is predominantly Maranao Muslims. The native language is Maranao, but many residents also speak Filipino and English.
Economy and services: Pualas is classified as a 5th class municipality. In 2021, about 21.75% of residents lived in poverty. In 2022, the municipality had revenues of about 157.7 million pesos and assets of about 164.8 million pesos. LASURECO provides electricity in the area. The ZIP code is 9313.
Education: Pualas National High School, located in Barangay Talambo, was founded in 1969 and offers junior and senior high school.
