Bob Leslie
Robert David "Bob" Leslie (born January 25, 1950) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and executive. He was born in Carberry, Manitoba, to a Scottish father and studied at Brandon University and the University of Winnipeg, earning a teaching degree.
Leslie has coached and worked as an executive in Canada, Switzerland, and Germany. He served as assistant coach for EV Zug in Switzerland in 1989-90 and again from 1994 to 1999, helping Zug win the 1998 Swiss championship under head coach Sean Simpson. He also coached the Carman Cougars in Manitoba from 1991 to 1994.
In January 1999 he became interim head coach of Kölner Haie (Cologne) in Germany, leading them to the playoff quarterfinals. He stayed with the team, became associate coach for 1999-2000, and then head coach the following season before being fired in January 2001.
His later coaching jobs included the London Knights in Canada, VEU Feldkirch in Austria, EHC Basel in Switzerland, and German teams Krefeld Pinguine and EHC Wolfsburg. In 2006 he joined the Hamburg Freezers of the DEL as assistant coach, was promoted to sport director in January 2008, and his contract ended in April 2009. In March 2010 he became assistant coach of Düsseldorfer EG and, from February to October 2010, served as assistant coach with the ZSC Lions in Switzerland.
Leslie has been part of the Canadian national team coaching staff on several occasions, winning three Spengler Cup titles and two Deutschland Cup titles. He is the CEO and president of Leslie Global Leadership, which runs ice hockey camps. He also works as a consultant for Hungary’s Kanadai Magyar Hokiklub SE and helps develop hockey facilities there.
