Port captaincies of the Republic of Croatia
Port captaincies (Lučke kapetanije), also known as harbormasters’ offices, are civilian offices under Croatia’s Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. They oversee navigation in Croatia’s internal and territorial waters, coordinate sea search and rescue, inspect safety at sea and the maritime domain, and manage the vessel register (registering and deleting ships). They also verify ships’ seaworthiness, measure tonnage, issue navigation documents, and check the qualifications of maritime workers. Croatia has eight port captaincies: Pula, Rijeka, Senj, Zadar, Šibenik, Split, Ploče and Dubrovnik.
