Barnfield Theatre
Barnfield Theatre is a small venue in Exeter, England, near the city centre on Barnfield Road in Southernhay. It began as Barnfield Hall, built in the late 1800s by the Exeter Literary Society, and became a theatre in 1972. Today it runs as a charity and hosts both amateur and professional productions. The building is owned by Exeter City Council and was leased to Barnfield Theatre Limited, which ran it until December 2021 when the Northcott Theatre took over management.
The main auditorium has 280 tip-up seats with a stage and basic lighting. The seats were reupholstered in 2005 and offer a full view of the stage from all seats. The space is suitable for conferences, lectures and displays as well as stage productions.
The Clifford Room is a flexible, modular space that can be used as a studio theatre or a conference room. It can be arranged for various needs (for example theatre in the round or traverse) and can seat up to about 60 people. It was renamed the Clifford Room in 2007 after Clifford Scott; it used to be called the Bedford Room.
The main foyer was updated in 2015 and again in 2022 during the period of management by the Exeter Northcott Theatre.
