2014 in Israel
2014 in Israel
2014 was mostly remembered for the Gaza war. In the summer, Israel fought Hamas in Operation Protective Edge after months of rocket attacks into Israeli towns. The fighting lasted about seven weeks and ended with a ceasefire in August. Many people were killed or injured and much of Gaza was damaged; Israelis in the south also faced rocket alerts and had to use shelters.
Outside of the war, life in Israel continued with political discussions about security and the economy, and the year left a lasting impact on Israeli society and its relations with Palestinians and neighboring countries.
