Ballina Shire
Ballina Shire is a local government area in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. It was formed on 1 January 1977 when the Municipality of Ballina merged with Tintenbar Shire. The Shire borders the Tasman Sea and lies along the Pacific Highway. The council seat is the town of Ballina. Ballina Shire covers 485 square kilometres and had a population of about 46,850 in 2022.
Ballina Shire Council is led by Mayor Sharon Cadwallader. The council has ten councillors: the directly elected mayor and nine councillors elected from three wards (three per ward) for four-year terms. The last election was held on 4 December 2021.
The Shire includes several heritage-listed sites.
