The Man Who Changed His Name (play)
The Man Who Changed His Name is a mystery play by Edgar Wallace. It opened on 14 March 1928 at the Apollo Theatre in London. The story follows a young woman who suspects that her wealthy husband may be an escaped Canadian murderer. The play ran for 77 performances in the West End. The original cast included James Raglan, Hartley Power, and Dorothy Dickson.
The play inspired three film adaptations: a 1928 British silent film, The Man Who Changed His Name, directed by A. V. Bramble; and a 1934 British sound film, The Man Who Changed His Name, directed by Henry Edwards. In 1933, Mario Camerini directed an Italian version called Giallo, starring Assia Noris. A radio adaptation by Hugh Stewart was broadcast on 24 April 1943 as the fourth episode of BBC Radio’s Saturday Night Theatre.
