Athletics at the 1928 Summer Olympics – Women's discus throw

At the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, the women’s discus throw made Olympic history as the first women’s track and field event to award medals. The competition was held on July 31 at the Olympic Stadium. Twenty-one athletes from twelve nations competed. The top six throwers from qualifying rounds advanced to the final, which started at 2:00 p.m. Halina Konopacka of Poland won gold with a world record throw of 39.62 metres. Lillian Copeland of the United States won silver, and Ruth Svedberg of Sweden took bronze.
