Atharga
Atharga, also known as Athargan or Hatharki, is a village in Indi taluk, Bijapur district, Karnataka, India. As of the 2001 census, its population was 8,610 (4,430 men and 4,180 women). The official language is Kannada. The village is in the IST time zone (UTC+5:30) with PIN 586112 and telephone code 08359; vehicle registration KA28. Atharga is part of the Bijapur Lok Sabha constituency and the Indi Vidhan Sabha constituency. The literacy rate is over 60%, and the sex ratio is about 51% men to 49% women.
Atharga is connected by road only (State Highway 34). There are regular buses from Bijapur and Indi. The nearest railway station is Minchanal, about 8 km away, and Atharga is roughly 25 km from both Bijapur and Indi.
Agriculture is the main occupation. Crops include cereals such as jowar, maize, bajra, and wheat; pulses like red gram, Bengal gram, and green gram; and oilseeds such as sunflower, groundnut, and safflower. Horticulture includes grapes, pomegranate, ber, guava, sapota, and lime. Atharga is particularly famous for lime. There are several convent schools in the village. The Sri Kulankareshwara Temple lies in the western part of Atharga.
