Hit by Love
Hit by Love is a 1994 song by American singer CeCe Peniston. It was released on July 25, 1994 as the fourth single from her second album Thought 'Ya Knew. The track runs 4:34 on the album version and blends house-pop, disco, and garage. It was written by Steven Nikolas, Brendon Sibley, Carsten Schack, Kenneth Karlin, and Cutfather, and produced by Soulshock and Karlin, with David Morales providing remixes.
In Europe, it was issued with "I'm Not Over You" as the B-side. The single reached number one on the US Billboard Dance Club Play chart, and peaked at #90 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #33 on the UK Singles Chart.
Critics with mixed but generally positive views noted the song’s dance-forward sound and catchy chorus. AllMusic said it recalled her early dance hits but didn’t become a big hit. Billboard’s Larry Flick called it her best single since "Finally" and highlighted its pop/house feel and memorable chorus, with notable remixes by Junior Vasquez and David Morales. The Gavin Report called it a pop-infused standout on Thought 'Ya Knew, and People described it as "jumping." Music Week felt it wasn’t as catchy as her earlier hits, while James Hamilton called it a catchy garage-style track.
