Hunan University of Science and Technology
Hunan University of Science and Technology (HNUST) is a public university in Xiangtan, Hunan, China. It operates under joint authority of the central and provincial governments, with main administration by Hunan Province. The university traces its roots to Northern Hunan Construction College, founded in 1949, and was formed in 2003 by merging Xiangtan Institute of Technology and Xiangtan Normal University.
The campus covers about 3,100 mu. The motto is 唯实惟新 至诚致志. As of 2019, about 2,567 faculty and around 36,700 students were enrolled.
In rankings, US News (2022) placed it 988th globally, 261st in Asia, and 101st in China. The 2023 CWTS Leiden Ranking ranked it 989th in the world for 2018–2021 publications, and the Nature Index 2023 recognized it among the top 1,000 leading research institutions worldwide.
