As Long as You Love Me (Justin Bieber song)
As Long as You Love Me is a 2012 song by Canadian singer Justin Bieber, featuring American rapper Big Sean, from Bieber’s third studio album, Believe. It was first released on July 10, 2012 as a promotional single and about a month later as the album’s second single. The track is an electropop song with dubstep influences.
The song was written by Bieber, Nasri Atweh, and Big Sean, with production by Darkchild, The Messengers, and Andre Lindal. It is played in the key of C minor at about 140 BPM, and features a pulsing, danceable beat with a dramatic build toward a loud drop. Lyrically, Bieber sings that true love can overcome any obstacles.
Chart performance was strong. In the United States, it reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Billboard Rhythmic Airplay chart, giving Bieber his first number-one on that chart. It also hit the top ten in several other countries, including the United Kingdom (peaking at 22 after the single release), Australia, Canada, Denmark, Lebanon, New Zealand, and Norway. By December 2012, the song had sold about 2.24 million copies in the US.
The music video, directed by Anthony Mandler, features actor Michael Madsen and has Justin Bieber trying to rescue his girlfriend from her protective father. The clip, which is about five and a half minutes long, was filmed in Los Angeles and also includes Big Sean.
Bieber performed As Long as You Love Me live on multiple occasions, starting with a show in Oslo in May 2012 and including appearances on the Today Show, the Teen Choice Awards, America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, Saturday Night Live (which he hosted in 2013), and the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. He later performed the song as a duet with Ariana Grande on The Honeymoon Tour in 2015.
