Mashonaland Eagles
The Mashonaland Eagles are a Zimbabwean cricket team based in Harare, representing the Harare Metropolitan Area and Mashonaland Central. They were founded in 2009 as part of Zimbabwe’s new domestic structure and compete in first-class (Logan Cup), List A (Pro50 Championship), and Twenty20 (Stanbic Bank 20 Series) cricket. Their home ground is Harare Sports Club in Harare, which has a capacity of about 10,000 and got floodlights in 2011.
History and highlights
- The Eagles were one of five new teams created in 2009-10 as Zimbabwe Cricket restructured domestic cricket. They performed strongly and finished top in the group, winning the Logan Cup that season.
- They played their first-class debut against the Mountaineers on September 14, 2009, in a match that ended in a draw. They also had several big wins early on, including several six-wicket victories.
- In Twenty20 cricket, they reached the final in their debut season but lost to the Mountaineers. They later won the second Stanbic Bank 20 Series, becoming champions in that format.
- The team had challenging campaigns in the Logan Cup and Pro40 in some seasons but bounced back with success in the Stanbic Bank 20 Series.
