Arrondissement of Basse-Terre

The arrondissement of Basse-Terre is an administrative area in the Guadeloupe department, in the French overseas region of Guadeloupe. It has 18 communes and covers 854.3 square kilometers. Its population was 183,264 in 2023. The prefecture is Basse-Terre. INSEE code: 9711.

History
- It was created in 1947.
- In 1963, the arrondissement of Saint-Martin-Saint-Barthélemy was created from part of it, including Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.

Cantons
- Since 2015, cantons’ borders are no longer aligned with arrondissement borders due to a nationwide reorganization.
