Anokhi
Anokhi is an Indian retailer from Jaipur, Rajasthan that sells textiles, clothing, furnishings, and accessories made with traditional Indian designs. It was founded in 1970 by John and Faith Singh to revive Rajasthani hand-block and woodcut printing using natural vegetable dyes.
The company works directly with craftspeople in villages around Jaipur. Designs are created in-house and then given to artisans who finish the prints at home, using fabrics, dyes, and woodblocks. Anokhi also helps involve rural women in embroidery, appliqué, beadwork, and patchwork, and runs a daycare at the manufacturing plant with educational support for children.
Anokhi has 25 stores in India and works with a few stockists in Europe and the United States.
The company runs the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing in Jaipur, located in a restored haveli. The restoration won a UNESCO Heritage Award for Cultural Conservation in 2000, and the museum is dedicated to the art of hand-block printing.
