Robert Melvin (Mickey) Channell, Jr. (September 9, 1942 – February 26, 2019) was an American politician from Georgia. A Republican, he served in the Georgia House of Representatives for the 120th district from 1992 to 2015, a total of 22 years, and was a business owner. During his time in the state legislature, he chaired the House Ways and Means Committee, was Vice-Chairman of Appropriations, and chaired the Health Subcommittee of Appropriations, as well as Industrial Relations and served as Secretary of Transportation. He also sat on the Health and Human Services, Human Relations and Aging, and Rules committees. Known for his healthcare expertise, he authored PeachCare for Kids to provide affordable health coverage for children of working families in Georgia. He supported rural hospitals and helped St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital locate in Greene County. In 2014, he was named Legislator of the Year by James Magazine and was listed among Georgia Trend’s 100 Most Influential Georgians. He passed away on February 26, 2019.
