Angelo Cijntje

Angelo Cijntje is a Curaçaoan former professional footballer who played mainly as a right-back, best known for his long spell with BV Veendam.

He was born July 26, 1981, in Willemstad, Netherlands Antilles, and is 1.67 meters tall. He played youth football for Meeuwenplaat, Spijkenisse and Heerenveen.

His senior career began at Heerenveen (2000–2002), where he didn’t make a league appearance and was loaned to KuPS in 2001, playing 32 games and scoring one goal. He then joined Veendam in 2002 and stayed there until 2013, making 309 league appearances and scoring six goals. In 2013 he moved to Groningen and made one league appearance. After that he played for ACV (2014–2016) and Veendam 1894 (2016–2019). He retired in May 2019 due to injuries.

Veendam faced bankruptcy in 2010, but the club’s situation was temporarily reversed and he kept playing. The club went bankrupt again in March 2013, after which Cijntje joined Groningen.

Internationally, Cijntje made his debut for the Netherlands Antilles in January 2004 in a friendly against Suriname and played four World Cup qualifying matches that year. After Curaçao began its own national team, he earned six caps and scored one goal for Curaçao in 2011.
