Lebuïnuskerk, also known as the Great Church (Grote Kerk), is Deventer’s main church in the Netherlands. It is a Gothic hall church built between 1450 and 1525 and is named after the English missionary Lebuinus. It was an important church in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Utrecht and became the cathedral of the Diocese of Deventer after a papal decree in the late 1500s. In 1580, Calvinists took over, removed much of the interior decoration, and renamed it the Great Church. Today the building belongs to the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, while the tower is owned by the city.
