No Room for the Groom is a 1952 American comedy directed by Douglas Sirk. It stars Tony Curtis and Piper Laurie and is based on the novel My True Love by Darwin Teilhet.

Vineyard owner Alvah Morrell and his girlfriend Lee Kingshead run away to Las Vegas to marry before he returns to military duty. They can’t take a honeymoon because Alvah catches chicken pox and Lee must quarantine. Alvah leaves for ten months. While he’s away, Lee has trouble telling her manipulative mother about the marriage. Mama pretends to faint and hides her own faults, like smoking and gambling, hoping Lee will marry wealthy Herman Strouple so their union can be controlled or even annulled.

When Alvah returns, many people push him to sell the vineyard to Herman, and some even try to have him declared mentally ill to take his affairs away. He must trust Lee to do the right thing, and in the end they finally spend their first night together.
