Anas el-Wugood is an opera in Arabic by Egyptian composer Aziz El-Shawan. He wrote it in 1970, but it wasn’t performed until 1994. The premiere happened at the Khedivial Opera House, which had been rebuilt with funding from the Japanese government as part of a new National Cultural Centre in Zamalek. The story comes from the Arabian Nights and follows Uns el Wujud, the “Delight of the World,” who is beloved by Zahar el-Waard, the “Flower of the Rose.”
