No. 158 Helicopter Unit, IAF
No. 158 Helicopter Unit, also known as the Silver Falcons, is a helicopter squadron of the Indian Air Force based at Phalodi Air Force Station in Rajasthan. It was formed on 10 December 2012 and operates Mil Mi-17V5 helicopters for transport and general utility tasks. The unit was created as part of the IAF’s expansion of helicopter capabilities in the early 2010s, alongside the Mi-17V5 upgrade.
Since its formation, the squadron has focused on training, logistics, and support missions, especially in desert and border regions. Its main roles include tactical transport, air maintenance, and humanitarian assistance. It can move troops, deliver cargo, and evacuate casualties under different conditions.
