Alysos, also known as Altsos or Alsos, is a rock in the Meteora formation in Thessaly, Greece. It overlooks the eastern side of the town of Kalabaka. The Monastery of the Apostle Peter's Chains was built on Alysos Rock around 1400, and today the ruins can still be seen on the rock. The full name of the monastery is Moni Proskyniseos tis Alyseos tou Apostolou Petrou, or the Monastery of the Veneration of the Chains of the Apostle Peter. The highest point of Alysos is about 587.8 meters (1,928 feet) above sea level. Coordinates: 39°42′49″N 21°37′48″E.
