2010 in downloadable songs for the Rock Band series (simplified)
- Rock Band games let you download songs for Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. You can buy songs individually or as packs/albums at a discount (packs are available for Wii with Rock Band 3).
- Most songs work in all game modes, including Band World Tour. Songs released before October 26, 2010 work across Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and Rock Band 3; songs released after that date work only with Rock Band 3. Some “family friendly” songs can also be used in Lego Rock Band.
- The Wii’s DLC situation was different from the other consoles. DLC started for Rock Band 2 and 3 on Wii in early 2009, and Harmonix released back-catalog DLC on Wii weekly to give players access to older songs.
- New DLC typically releases on Tuesdays on Xbox Live, PSN, and Nintendo WFC. Since May 20, 2008, songs have been released in both North America and Europe unless noted otherwise.
- Some older songs were updated with Rock Band 3 features (backing vocals) or with Pro Guitar/Bass charts available as an extra pack.
- By October 2009, more than 800 songs had been released as DLC, and players had purchased them more than 60 million times.
- In 2010, Rock Band released 425 songs, 38 packs, and 10 albums.
- All DLC works with Rock Band 3 and its Pro Drums. A file-format change on October 26, 2010 meant new songs are playable only in Rock Band 3.
- Since Rock Band 4 came out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, all previously purchased DLC for Rock Band 3 and earlier is forward compatible within the same system family at no extra cost (except for The Beatles: Rock Band content).
