Alexis Scheer

Alexis Scheer is an American playwright and screenwriter from South Miami, Florida. Her mother is from Medellín, Colombia, and her father has Eastern European Jewish roots. She grew up with a love of acting, music, and writing plays, and studied at New World School of the Arts in Miami. She earned a B.F.A. in musical theater from the Boston Conservatory and an M.F.A. in playwriting from Boston University.

Her play Our Dear Dead Drug Lord premiered in 2018 in Boston with Scheer’s Off the Grid Theatre Company and earned her The Improper Bostonian’s Rising Theatre Star of 2018. The production moved Off-Broadway in 2019, produced by WP Theater and Second Stage Theater. For her BU thesis, Laughs in Spanish, she wrote a play that premiered in 2019 at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, later appearing at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in 2022 and at GableStage in Coral Gables, Florida, in 2024.

Scheer made her Broadway debut in 2023, contributing revisions to the book of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella (the Broadway version following its West End run, which was retitled Bad Cinderella). Her play Breaking the Story premiered Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theater in June 2024. She also worked as a writer on the first season of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.
