Phir Subah Hogi (International title: Breaking Free) is an Indian drama series that aired on Zee TV from April 17, 2012 to March 22, 2013. The show is set in Bundelkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and centers on the Bedni community, where young women and girls are forced to dance for rich landlords. Sugni, a brave Bedni girl, wants to belong to one man and fights against this tradition.

The story follows Sugni and Vikram Thakur Singh, a powerful landlord who falls in love with her. Their path is full of obstacles: Sugni’s family opposition, the revelation that Vikram’s wife Riva is alive, and the neighborhood’s disapproval. On their wedding day, Riva’s survival is exposed, causing more heartache and forcing Sugni to return to Bedni life. Aditya, Vikram’s nephew, buys Sugni and she ends up marrying him, while Vikram’s mother Maa Thakur initially opposes the match but later tries to control the situation.

Vikram’s jealousy and schemes lead to dangerous twists, including a plan to kill Aditya and a season where Sugni is shot and falls from a cliff. Six months later, Vikram encounters a city full of courtesans and a woman who looks like Sugni, while Riva uses mind games to manipulate Maa Thakur and Suman. Meanwhile, Sugni’s memories begin to return.

Eventually, Vikram rescues Sugni and brings her back to the family home. Riva realizes Vikram still loves Sugni and divorces him. Aditya returns, but in the end Sugni’s memories and true love bring her back to Vikram, and the couple is married.
