Haskell County is a rural area in western Texas. The county seat and largest town is Haskell. It was created in 1858 and organized in 1885, and it’s named after Charles Ready Haskell, who died in the Goliad Massacre.

The county covers about 910 square miles, mostly land. In 2020, about 5,416 people lived there, giving a low population density of roughly six people per square mile. The median age is around 43.5 years.

The population is predominantly White, with a significant Hispanic or Latino community. About 76% of residents are White, and 25% identify as Hispanic or Latino (of any race). There are roughly 2,100 households, and most homes are owner-occupied.

Haskell County tends to vote Republican in recent elections. In 2020, about 83% voted for Donald Trump. The county is the home of former Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Education in the county includes Goree Independent School District, which merged into Munday CISD in 2003. Vernon College serves the area.

The county sits in the Central Time Zone, with coordinates around 33.18°N, 99.73°W.
