The Agenzia delle Entrate, or Agency of Revenue, is Italy’s government office that enforces the financial rules and collects taxes and revenue. It also provides online services for taxpayers in Italy and abroad and works with other tax authorities to avoid double taxation.

Founded on 1 January 2001, its headquarters are in Rome. The agency is led by a Director General; as of June 2017, that role was held by Ernesto Maria Ruffini.

Organization and work: The agency has central departments for audits, personnel, legal matters, and other tasks. It operates regionally, with offices in 19 of Italy’s 20 regions; in Trentino-Alto Adige there are offices in Trento and Bolzano. About 32,000 people worked for the agency in 2020.

Appointments and access: With the national electronic identity system (SPID), you must be an Italian resident to book an appointment, and bookings are done online via the official Tax Office website.

History and data: On 1 December 2012, the agency absorbed the Real Estate and Land Registry Agency (Agenzia del Territorio). This integration provides cadastral data, which is available to individuals through the Territorial Agency’s website to view property information.
