Afghan FC Chaman
Afghan Football Club Chaman, commonly known as AFC Chaman, is a Pakistani football club from Chaman in Balochistan, a border town near Afghanistan. It was founded in 1960 as Afghan Agency Chaman.
Home ground and people
- The team has used municipal venues in Chaman for home games, mainly the Govt High School Ground and Jamal Nasir Stadium, with a total capacity of about 12,000.
- Owner: Mohammad Ali; Chairman: Haji Naseer Ali; Manager: Sagheer Muhammad.
- They compete in the Pakistan Premier League; in the 2018–19 season they finished 11th out of 16.
A brief history
- 1965: Won the All Pakistan Tournament in Sibi (their first major trophy in Pakistan).
- 1967: Competed in the All Pakistan General Musa Tournament in Quetta.
- 1998: Made their top-flight debut in the PFF President’s Cup but didn’t advance from the group.
- 1999–2000s: Had limited success in President’s Cup formats; in 2000 they withdrew from the tournament.
- 2000: Took part in an invitation tour in Kandahar, Afghanistan; during the tour, Taliban police stopped a game and punished players.
- 2002: Reached the round of 16 in the PFF President’s Cup.
- 2004: Became a founding member of the Pakistan Premier League.
- 2006–07: Avoided relegation, finishing 9th.
- 2018–19: Finished 11th in the Pakistan Premier League.
- 2023: Was shortlisted for a SAFF Club Championship playoff, but the event did not take place after no club met the requirements.
Rivalry
- AFC Chaman has a notable rivalry with fellow local club Muslim FC, which draws large crowds in Pakistani domestic football.
Notes
- The club has not had a single dedicated stadium of its own and has relied on local municipal venues in Chaman for home matches.
